Assistant Director of Technology
My duties at the IVL are many and varied. On a day to day basis, I act as a Virtualization Specialist, 3D Animator and the Technology Specialist for the Lab. As a Virtualization Specialist, I scan and edit the items brought into the lab for virtualization. As an Animator, I assemble the individual models into larger, more complex structures and then make them move. As the Technology Specialist, I am in charge of the maintenance, operation and upkeep of all the current technology used in the lab. I also do the research and testing of possible future technology that the Lab may acquire or utilize and provide that research to the lab director, Ralph Chapman.
I have a Masters of Science degree in Archaeology where I specialized in the analysis of stone tools, specifically in applying database technology to the analysis. I also have an MBA with an emphasis on information systems where I focused on Informatics, or the study of the design, collection, manipulation and dissemination of information. Along those lines, I have been helping in the development of an Expert System, called the Archaeological Auto Classification System (AACS). This system will take an image of a projectile point and provide a probability of assignment within a selected typology.
