Virtual Specimen Library Overview :
The Virtual Specimen Library at the IVL is our Digital Archive. These items are from the projects we have
been working on, but not all items from the Digital
Archive are viewable. Those items
that were selected have been reduced in detail by as much as 98% from that stored
in the Archive. This reduction in detail was done so that the items may be viewed
online without requiring hours of download time.
Even though the detail of the items has been reduced significantly, the quality
of the objects we present here is still greater than that utilized by most major
animation studios producing digital effects for blockbuster Hollywood movies. When
high resolution photographs are added to these high quality models, the results
look exactly like the original objects, and are quite spectacular.
